Rubella is an acute infectious disease caused by the Rubella virus. Most of the disease is usually mild, usually in children and young adults. For pregnant women, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy, Rubella disease causes dangerous harm to the health of mother and fetus:

– May cause miscarriage, stillbirth or premature birth.

Babies born to mothers infected with rubella virus are at increased risk of:

+ Congenital Rubella syndrome with serious malformations such as heart defects, deafness, cataracts, growth retardation… even death.

+ Diabetes, jaundice, hemorrhage, vitreous bone, meningitis, pneumonia, low birth weight, premature birth…

* Rubella is transmitted through : Respiratory tract (cough, sneeze); Close contact with an infected person or nasopharyngeal secretions.

* Clinical manifestations of the disease :

– Mild fever.

– Rash and mild inflammation of the respiratory tract.

– Swollen lymph nodes in the occipital region, behind the ears and neck.

– In adults, there may be swelling and pain in the joints.

However, up to 50% of cases have no obvious clinical signs, making patients easily confused with other diseases.

* Currently, the disease has no specific treatment, proactive vaccination is the best measure to prevent the disease.

* Women during pregnancy need:

– Limit contact with people with fever, rash and children with congenital rubella syndrome.

– If you have a fever or rash, you should go to medical facilities for timely examination, testing, diagnosis and advice.

* When suspected of being infected with Rubella, it is necessary to immediately go to a medical facility for timely examination, diagnosis and treatment.
