Emergency – Intensive Care Department

I. General introduction

The Emergency – Intensive Care – Anti-Poison Department was established on December 4, 2019. With a total of 12 staff, including 3 doctors and 9 nurses with high professional qualifications, dedicated to their work, enthusiastic and energetic. The department is fully equipped with a system of modern equipment.

The Emergency Department is one of the important clinical departments of the Hospital, contributing to emergency and active treatment for life-threatening medical conditions. The organization of work and regular staff according to regulations ensures 24/7 emergency personnel to promptly provide emergency care to patients with abnormal changes.

II. Organizational structure

          Major: Intensive Care specialized orientation

III. Facilities and equipment:

+ Invasive ventilator: 01 Drager Infinity C 300 + 01 Bennett 840.

+ Non-invasive ventilator: 02

+ Monitoring machine: 06

+ Defibrillator: 01

+ Bedside electrocardiograph: 01

+ Endotracheal intubation set: 01

+ Electric syringe: 03

+ Other equipment and supplies for emergency work.

IV. Functions and tasks:

  1. General functions:
  • Receiving emergency patients 24/7.
  • Closely coordinate and collaborate with clinical departments to provide the fastest and best treatment options.
  • Participate in out-of-hospital emergency care and receive mass emergencies. Closely coordinate with the 115 Emergency Center to perform out-of-hospital emergency care and emergency transportation when required.
  • In cases where the patient is seriously ill and beyond the professional capacity, consult, invite support from higher levels or transfer the patient to higher levels.
  • The department is capable of handling all emergency situations such as:

+ Respiratory emergencies: Acute respiratory failure, severe bronchial asthma, acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe pneumonia, acute pneumothorax,

+ Gastrointestinal emergencies: acute pancreatitis, hepatic coma, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc.

+ Cardiovascular emergencies: hypertensive crisis, acute coronary syndrome, cerebrovascular accident, severe arrhythmias, etc.

+ Neurological emergencies: acute stroke, acute headache, acute dizziness, etc.

+ Thoracic and vascular emergencies: penetrating chest wounds, effusion, large pneumothorax, etc.

+ Poisoning emergencies: food poisoning, sleeping pill poisoning, rat poison poisoning, electric shock, heatstroke, drowning, etc.

          2.Techniques performed at the department:
+ Cardiovascular:

  • Cardiac arrest.
  • Defibrillation with an electric shock machine.
  • Stop paroxysmal tachycardia.
  • Central venous catheter placement
  • Blood transfusion, fluid replacement for severe blood loss, shock
  • Emergency ECG recording at bedside

+ Respiratory:

  • Endotracheal tube placement
  • Invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation
  • Emergency thoracentesis
  • Pleural fluid drainage

+ Anti-poisoning:

  • Emergency gastric lavage
  • Multi-dose activated charcoal

+ Other common medical emergencies: Treatment of acute respiratory failure, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute pancreatitis, cerebral stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc.
