Colorectal cancer is one of the 10 most common cancers in the world, ranking the 4th among the causes of death, after stomach cancer, liver cancer and lung cancer. Therefore, proactive screening plays an important role in timely diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of development into cancer.
* Warning signs of colorectal cancer
When colorectal cancer has clear symptoms, the disease has developed to a late stage, which makes treatment difficult and recovery rate low. People with risk factors should pay attention to the signs of colorectal cancer, including:
– Toilet disorders: constipation mixed with diarrhea, bloody mucus, small flat stools, difficulty defecating, straining a lot when defecating, blood in the stool.
– Stomach cramps
– Feel the tumor
– Fatigue, pale skin, extreme thinness (unexplained weight loss).
* Actively screen for colorectal cancer with colonoscopy
Currently, screening colonoscopy is considered as a popular and accurate diagnostic method, helping to detect colorectal cancer at an early stage.
Thai Nguyen International Hospital is equipped with a modern endoscopy system that helps identify and distinguish between damaged and normal tissues, allowing diagnosis at the pre-cancer stage.
When a cancerous lesion is detected at an early stage, meaning the tumor is still limited to the mucosa layer, the doctor will perform a colonoscopy to remove the lesion, thereby preventing progression to cancer.
People with a family history of hereditary non-adenomatous colorectal cancer, people with gastrointestinal infections should have a colorectal endoscopy at the age of over 40. When polyps are detected after colonoscopy, patients will be assigned to remove the polyps, to have pathology surgery and to have a plan for periodic monitoring and to have continued screening.
Along with proactive screening, changing eating habits includes: a high-fiber diet, reducing red meat, eating more vegetables and colored fruits (carrots, susu, tomatoes… ) combined with physical activity, weight control to avoid obesity, drinking enough water to avoid constipation, not abusing alcohol, tobacco… is an effective way to prevent colorectal cancer.
