LABORATORY DEPARTMENT

I. General Introduction
- Operating principle: Ensure the quality of tests, perform rapid processing from sample reception – operation – analysis to result delivery.
- Since its inception, the Laboratory Department has continuously strived to improve and upgrade its knowledge and equipment with modern testing machines to keep pace with the development of other departments and the overall progress of Yen Binh General Hospital.
- Over the years, with the attention of the Board of Directors of Thai Nguyen International Hospital Group and the management of Yen Binh General Hospital, the Laboratory Department has comprehensively developed both structurally and professionally. The department has progressively upgraded its testing techniques to be on par with hospitals in the region, fully meeting the needs of patients for diagnosis and treatment. This ensures increasingly accurate and rapid test results.
Location: Floor 1, Building A – Yen Binh General Hospital, Tran Nguyen Han Street, Nam Tien Ward, Pho Yen City, Thai Nguyen Province.
II. Organizational Structure
Currently, the Laboratory Department has 9 staff members:
- Head of Department: Dr. of Biochemistry, Dao Thi Tuyet Nhung.
- Chief Technician: Bachelor Nguyen Thi Huong.
- 5 University-level Medical Technicians.
- 2 College-level Technicians
The Laboratory Department consists of 6 specialized units:
- Blood Collection Unit
- Biochemistry – Immunology Unit
- Hematology – Blood Transfusion Unit
- Microbiology Unit
- Pathology Unit
- Test Control and Results Unit
III. Functions and Responsibilities
- Functions: As one of the clinical support departments, responsible for performing laboratory techniques in hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and pathology.
2. Responsibilities:
- Organize sampling and specimen reception, ensure constant readiness for testing.
- Perform laboratory techniques in hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and pathology to enhance diagnosis and monitor treatment outcomes.
- Provide safe blood and blood products for inpatient treatment.
- Manage and utilize medical equipment, chemicals, and supplies effectively and economically.
- Implement new testing techniques.
- Conduct internal and external quality control assessments as per the Ministry of Health’s regulations.
- Engage in research, scale expansion, and service scope enhancement in line with the hospital’s professional development direction.
IV. Equipment and Techniques
- Equipment: The department is equipped with a modern, integrated system of laboratory equipment including:
- AU480 Automated Biochemistry Analyzer
- Cobas e411 Automated Immunoassay System
- Celtac α Hematology Analyzer
- Mindray BC-760 Fully Automated Hematology Analyzer
- Sta Satellite Max Coagulation Analyzer
- Dirui H-800 Fully Automated Urine Analyzer
- ADAMS A1c Automated HbA1c Analyzer
- Diestro Electrolyte Analyzer
- Pathology specimen slicer
- Laboratory Techniques a. Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion:
- Comprehensive blood cell analysis using laser counters.
- Evaluation of intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation functions.
- Safe blood transfusion management in collaboration with clinical departments. b. Biochemistry-Immunology:
- Basic biochemistry tests to assess liver, kidney functions, metabolism, iron, calcium levels, etc.
- Thyroid tests: FT3, FT4, TSH, Tg, Anti-Tg, Anti-TPO, etc.
- Cardiac markers: CK, CKMB, TnT, NT-PRO BNP, etc.
- Cancer markers for early detection and diagnosis of cancers such as liver, lung, gastrointestinal, kidney, breast, ovarian, cervical, and pancreatic cancers: CEA, CA125, CA15-3, CA19-9, AFP, PSA, SCC, Cyfra21.1, etc.
- Comprehensive urine analysis.
c. Microbiology:
- Direct microscopy and staining for fungi, parasites, identification of fecal flora, bacteria, etc.
- Rapid tests for various viruses: Influenza A, B, Covid, RSV, Rota viruses, etc.
- Quantitative viral load tests: Hepatitis A, B, C, HIV.
Pathology Testing:
- Histopathology tests
- Fine needle aspiration cytology tests
V. Direction and Development
- Build a laboratory that meets Biosafety Level 2 standards.
- Aiming to integrate laboratory services nationwide. The department plans to achieve Level 3 quality management according to the Ministry of Health’s criteria 2429.
- Provide advanced training for the medical staff and technicians.
- Continuously train technicians as per the regulations of the Ministry of Health.
With a dedicated and innovative team along with experienced staff who are committed to their work, under the close guidance of the management board and the cooperation with various departments and colleagues, the Laboratory Department is increasingly strengthening in all aspects. All staff members are continually striving to uphold the department’s motto.
Recognizing the noble mission of supporting clinical doctors in diagnosis and prognosis, thereby developing appropriate treatment plans, the Laboratory Department consistently strives to maintain its role, seriously implementing professional tasks, and ensuring “Accuracy – Reliability – Timeliness” for each test result. The department is committed to improving and gradually enhancing the quality of its services, aiming to provide the best laboratory services for patients/customers in line with the common goals of Yen Binh General Hospital.
