On April 26, 2023, doctors from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yen Binh Thai Nguyen General Hospital, performed surgery to remove a uterine fibroid measuring 14×16 cm, weighing up to 1.6 kg, for Ms. P.T.N (54 years old, Dong Cao ward, Pho Yen city)
Ms. N discovered uterine fibroids 4 years ago and was treated with oriental medicine but it was ineffective. In the past year, she had severe abdominal pain and prolonged menstruation, so she went for a check-up at Yen Binh Thai Nguyen General Hospital. Ultrasound and MRI results of the abdomen showed: The dimension of the uterus is 115mm front and back, the posterior wall muscles have many scattered foci, and the wall is about 83mm thick; Uterine fibroids protrude into the anterior abdominal wall, compressing and pushing surrounding organs, and there are foci of necrotic degeneration in the tumor.
After a specialized consultation, the doctors concluded: The patient has large uterine fibroids and needs early surgery to avoid dangerous complications. The patient was prescribed surgery to completely remove the uterus and 2 appendages.
