SUCCESSFUL MANAGEMENT OF A COMPLICATION FOLLOWING WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION

Upon clinical examination and X-ray imaging, doctors from the Department of Odonto-Stomatology (Dentistry) at Thai Nguyen International Hospital identified:

A deeply impacted wisdom tooth with a complex, abnormal angulation.

A radiopaque foreign body located deep within the jawbone, adjacent to the inferior alveolar nerve canal — a high-risk area with potential for serious complications.

At this time, the patient was extremely anxious, with profuse bleeding that was difficult to control. BSCKI. Ha Duc Viet, Deputy Head of the Department of Odonto-Stomatology, promptly indicated emergency surgery, including: removal of the impacted tooth, retrieval of the foreign body within the bone, and local hemostasis.

The surgical team performed:

Removal of the impacted wisdom tooth.

Identification and removal of the deeply embedded foreign body in the jawbone.

Hemostasis and control of local tissue damage.

After two hours of intense surgery, the operation was successful. The greatest challenge was accurately locating and safely removing the foreign body without affecting the inferior alveolar nerve canal. The patient is currently stable and continues to be monitored in the department.
