HANTAVIRUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR DISEASE PREVENTION

Hantavirus is a group of viruses that can cause severe illness in humans, with symptoms that may rapidly progress to breathing difficulties, respiratory failure, low blood pressure, and even death if not detected and treated promptly. Currently, there is no specific treatment available for Hantavirus infection, making prevention especially important.

According to healthcare experts, Hantavirus is primarily transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their waste products, including urine, droppings, and saliva. People may become infected by inhaling virus-contaminated dust in polluted environments or through direct contact with infected sources.

At present, no human cases of Hantavirus infection have been reported in Vietnam. However, people should not be complacent about the potential risk of infection and are encouraged to stay informed through reliable sources in order to proactively protect their health and that of their families.

To help prevent Hantavirus infection, healthcare professionals recommend:

  • Keeping living environments clean and well-ventilated
  • Preventing rodents from entering homes and living areas
  • Wearing masks and gloves when cleaning areas that may contain rodent waste
  • Avoiding direct contact with live or dead rodents
  • Properly storing food to avoid attracting rodents

Taking proactive preventive measures and maintaining a clean, safe living environment are effective ways to protect community health from dangerous infectious diseases.
