Enhancing Professional Quality Through Standardized Specimen Collection for Laboratory Testing

To continuously improve professional competence, standardize clinical procedures, and ensure patient safety, on July 21, 2026, the Department of Nursing, in collaboration with the Laboratory Department of TNH Viet Yen Hospital, organized a training session entitled "Guidelines for Laboratory Specimen Collection" for nurses, laboratory technicians, and midwives working at the hospital.

Specimen collection is one of the most critical steps in the laboratory testing process. The quality of the collected specimen directly affects the accuracy of test results, enabling physicians to make precise diagnoses and develop appropriate treatment plans. Therefore, regularly updating knowledge, standardizing techniques, and strengthening the professional competence of healthcare staff remain key priorities at TNH Viet Yen Hospital.

During the training session, participants were provided with updated knowledge and practical guidance on several essential topics, including:

• Proper specimen collection techniques for different types of laboratory tests.
• Regulations on specimen labeling, storage, and transportation in accordance with professional standards.
• Identification of common pre-analytical errors and effective preventive measures.
• Discussion of real-life scenarios and practical solutions encountered during specimen collection and handling.

In addition to theoretical instruction, the program encouraged nurses, laboratory technicians, and midwives to exchange practical experiences, discuss challenges encountered in daily practice, and establish consistent approaches in accordance with standardized procedures.
