POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE: RAPID EMERGENCY RESPONSE SAVES A MOTHER’S LIFE
Thai Nguyen International Hospital has successfully managed a critical case of postpartum hemorrhage, helping a mother overcome a life-threatening situation and recover safely.
Case Overview
A 25-year-old pregnant woman was admitted at 40 weeks of gestation with a history of previous cesarean section (uterine scar) and was indicated for a planned cesarean delivery. The surgery was performed successfully, and a healthy baby was delivered.
However, approximately 5 hours after the operation, the patient suddenly developed massive bleeding accompanied by uterine atony—typical signs of postpartum hemorrhage, a serious obstetric complication that can progress rapidly and become life-threatening if not treated promptly.
Emergency Intervention and Timely Management
Upon detecting the abnormal condition, the medical team immediately activated the emergency response protocol and implemented comprehensive interventions:
- Administration of medications and measures to promote uterine contraction
- Active bleeding control
- Fluid resuscitation and blood transfusion to compensate for blood loss
Thanks to prompt, coordinated, and protocol-based management, the hemorrhage was successfully controlled, and the uterus was preserved.
Treatment Outcome
After intensive monitoring and care, the patient’s condition stabilized, she recovered well, and was safely discharged from the hospital.
Warning: Postpartum Hemorrhage Should Not Be Underestimated
Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the most dangerous obstetric emergencies. It can occur unexpectedly and progress extremely rapidly. Without timely detection and intervention, it may lead to severe consequences, even threatening the mother’s life.
Close monitoring after delivery and timely management are crucial factors in ensuring maternal safety.
